After Effects Alternative Tested: EffectCraft, Free but 60 MiB Heavy (2026)

People searching for an AE alternative want motion graphics and compositing. Bottom line: the shape is complete (layers, keyframes, effect presets, render queue), but the 60 MiB wasm is a hard gate - forget it on slow networks, and large projects hit memory limits.

What it cannot replace (read this first)

Switching cost: three steps to decide

  1. Build one 10-second animation first (3 layers + keyframes + one preset) and test the export.
  2. Keep steps that need AE plugins in AE; move the rest.
  3. On a slow connection use the desktop build instead of the web build.

Who it fits / who it does not

Honest caveat: The EffectCraft side was tested on 2026-10-21 with the official web build v0.13.0 (UI and render queue read from screenshots); the AE side is described from its public product shape.
